Charleston Kidney Writing Desk - Hooker Furniture

The Charleston Writing Desk blends classic Southern charm with practical home office functionality. Inspired by West Indies craftsmanship and British/Dutch Colonial design, this kidney-shaped desk features stretchers, rattan drawer fronts, intricately carved leaf motifs on the legs, and a robust leather writing surface.
 
Crafted from cherry veneers, rattan, and resin, the desk is finished in deep Maraschino Cherry. It includes five drawers, with the left and right top drawers featuring removable partitions, a writing slide, and pencil tray for flexible use. The center drawer has a drop-front for keyboard storage, and antique bronze round knobs and ring-pull hardware complete the elegant look.
 
Part of the Charleston Collection, the desk reflects the region’s coastal, traditional, and colonial heritage, featuring translucent cathedral cherry veneers, walnut and maple inlays, and antique burnished hardware. The collection combines classic Southern elegance with West Indies–inspired casual touches, offering furniture pieces in a variety of finishes and woven materials to complement any home.
 
Construction: 
Solid wood and select wood veneers over durable wood products in our furniture construction. Use of veneers enables more decorative looks unattainable with solid wood. Veneers are used over durable wood products such as medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particle board, made of renewable resources. MDF and particle board are used in quality furniture for areas that need to be stable, such as large surfaces. These durable wood products do not expand and contract with heat and cold and do not absorb moisture as much as solid wood, which results in stronger and longer-lasting furniture.
 
Finish Construction:
A  multiple-step finish process of up to 16 finish steps. This results in an unsurpassed clarity, depth and color richness and durability to our finishes. Through hand-craftsmanship such as rubbing and padding, our finishes feel as good as they look, with a smoothness that is delightful to the touch.
